The selection of the solid form for development (pre-formulation) is a milestone in the conversion of a new chemical entity into a drug product (formulation). An understanding of the materials sciences of a new active pharmaceutical is crucial to the interface of drug substance and drug product. In this presentation the challenges facing the pharmaceutical scientists as a consequence of polymorphism, hydration will be described and consideration to the use of computational approaches to target experimentation will be described.
